Born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, Marilyn Quaedvlieg is an artist whose work reflects a lifelong love of art and a deep connection to the landscapes and architecture of Alberta. Working in a realistic and impressionistic style, she uses acrylics, watercolor, pen, colored pencil, and mixed media to capture the character, beauty, and stories of the places that inspire her.
Her formal art training began in childhood at the Shepy School of Fine Art and continued through the Edmonton Art Gallery. Over the years, she explored a variety of creative forms, including sculpture, pottery, carving, and stained glass. As a stained-glass artisan, she also shared her knowledge by teaching stained glass through Edmonton Continuing Education.
After retirement, Marilyn returned to painting with renewed focus. Through art courses and practical experience, she developed a fresh passion for painting and continued to refine her artistic voice.
In watercolor and pen, Marilyn depicts Edmonton’s beautiful and often forgotten historical buildings, sharing their stories through her “North Side” series. She also paints the hidden treasures of Alberta’s scenery, inviting viewers to notice the unique surroundings close to home.
True to her motto, “paint what you love,” Marilyn’s work also includes a series of floral paintings inspired by her passion for gardening.
